beyond our control

“You can stop a bird from perching on your shoulder but you can’t stop a bird from flying over your head” – Confucius
There are situations in life which is within your grasp that you yourself can resolve or put a stop to but not all. Certain situations are beyond our control . That’s what it means.

delusion and blindness

There comes a time in your life where you can see things a lot of people cannot see and derive conclusions that people cannot arrive at. It’s called delusion. There also comes a time in your life where you can’t see things a lot of people can see and you cannot derive conclusions that people can easily arrive at. It’s called blindness.

negativity

When a person is full of negativity, they become their own worst enemy. It’s like putting boulders across their own path to success. A successful person removes every boulder that comes in his path. Not sulk and complain and live with it for the rest of their lives. If the path has many boulders and you don’t have the strength to remove it, get some help to remove it or reorganize it to your advantage. If there are far too many boulders, high time you use another path. Just don’t forget your goal.

New York Facet 1

It’s morning now
Them New Yorkers hurried
Between cobbled pavements
And potholed routes
Stuffy subway stations
Littered tracks
Leaking ceilings
Does dreams began
With state of the art headphones?
Can life commute
Without common courtesy?
I ponder the pitter patter
As I gaze at their
expressionless faces
Looking over
them dusty windows..

ceramic market

As long as excavation never stops, one can never claim to be an accomplished expert in Chinese Ceramics. Only an authority perhaps or a well learnt. It is a vast subject and good things doesn’t come in abundance. As much as one likes to focus on a preferred period, it is already a challenge sorting out the doubtful from the authentic. Everyday in every way, there are constant debates by historians and archaeologists piecing up their findings. Many theories and attribution to kilns had been re written judging by the shards found. Dynasties had also been inserted between other dynasties. Quaintly, one would be surprised that in China auctions, good imitations of genuine copies also has a ready market. So its a whole ball game altogether in the collectors market.

Spanish Silver Dollar

Before the Spanish Silver Dollar became the widely accepted exchange of world currency in the 16th century, every trader trades with currencies of their own country using the weight of the metal as their yardstick. Way before that, tokens were used. Be it in metal, ivory or porcelain very much like today’s gambling chips. These chips were a form of exchange and also a form of wage where producing a token to the bodega rewards one with a fine meal. But way before the tokens, what was used then? There were colorful beads, cowry shells, semi precious stones and metal nuggets some in the shape of animals and fruits, others in the form of canons as well as kettlepots. Well that was the time where barter trading was widely accepted. And when there are no laws to bar certain goods from being traded, especially with Chinese Ceramics, then one cannot claim that every imperial ware that is outside China is stolen. Your law is only enforced after 1970. Since as early as 1200, Chinese fleets have combed the Straits of Malacca.

femininity

This world is in need of femininity. Angry women, those who shouts at husbands, yells at kids, frequently horns, uses nasty language and makes crude signs, dominates conversation, clink glasses as they cheer on their favorite footballers, nowadays they are under every pillow and lurks at every corner of the earth. Thus they are no different from men picking up man’s glorious traits so femininity, they are indeed rare and lacking. To stumble upon one is indeed mesmerizing. Change your luck. Becoming you is great but becoming your inner self, what you as women were endowed with minus the rough traits inherited from men is even greater. Do not be influence by slugs and snails and society at large. The best quality a women can have is to be the women you were born as.

Generation Y

To understand the work culture of today is to encounter intellectuals with college degrees. “Generation Y” as we called it. These bunch of youngsters can no longer adapt themselves to the work culture imbued in us many years back. We work as per instructed, get our pay, and hopefully save enough for a rainy day. They are different. Generation Y can’t do without their mobile phones and laptops. As they work for you, they are at the same time assessing and sizing up their own bosses and the company they worked with. When they see nothing is quite right, they quit without a second thought. Their motto is like this.. “As long as I got my work done, there is no point sitting on the desk all day long and when I am off the office, i could also help promote the company I work with so stop telling me what to do!”
Well, not every office is geared for the future and has a work culture like Google Headquarters as we understand it and because of that, many prefer setting up their own arty cafes, do sales and operate within the ambit of their spontaneity instead. They find excitement in info-tainment. Is that wrong?
I feel that as elders, we need to adapt to their mindset for they are the child of tomorrow. They shape the future. Not us. As elders, we can only seek to understand them then guide them to a safer path. But let them pave their own way to the future. The future looks shocking to most of us but to them, they live for today. They are not frighten of the future like us because they have friends all over the world reachable within the click of a button. They have never experienced agony or frustration anticipating a phone call or a letter that did not arrive. I myself believe that some of our old ways, like the usual office work culture, has to go too. There is alot of monotony facing the computer for 8-10 hrs, sometimes 12hrs without communicating. and with a boss with a “This is my office, I am the law attitude” I believe it affects our sanity very much. So are we to stop them the Generation “Y”? i say flow with the tide and guide their direction. But leave them to steer the boat to their own destiny..

most happening

Animals live in a borderless world yet they respect each others right to live. They prey when hungry, feed their youngs, mate according to their in-built cycles, cleanses and they built nests. They have no use for money, the internet, transportation or the best of restaurants and they don’t eat their own specie up though they have no school to teach them not to. And they certainly don’t go around raping, shooting or cheating each others. I wonder what happened to humans, the most intelligent of species? I think we are but the most happening. And the silliest. That’s all.

limitations

There are limitations to what our human mind can conceive. Until we can imagine a new color, then can we imagine a new world order. But if one masters spirituality, one can create a new world order for himself and love mankind for what it is. Race, religion and creed will then automatically take a backseat.

couching

Quite often, a man would be branded a cheat  when  a  woman  found  herself  in

a fight for attention towards the  man  she  mistakenly  thought  was  solely  hers.

Her expectations and demands grew as a requite towards a bargain she herself

voluntarily commits to. Well mind you, attraction is  both  ways  and  sex  by  force

is rape. Cos without committing to a date, that man would  be  couching  in  front

of the tv with a campbell soup can in hand romancing the star of his dreams.

totally

There are glaring differences between the needs of a man as compared to  a  woman

where relationships are concern. Topping the list  for  women  is  caring  whereas  for

man, it is trust. These differences and there are many more, are ingrained in  us.  We

just have got to learn how to recognize  those  differences,  accept  it  and  live  with  it.

Because it is not going to go away by the wave of a magic wand. A man can be caring.

But not in the way a woman expects or demands how that man  should  care  for  her.

If he submits to her demands unwillingly, he would have lost  his  very  essence  that

makes him a man. He will then lose his gallantry, his knighthood and his respect  by

the very women whom he submits to. And when that  women  loses  respect  for  her

man, the relationship breaks down. Totally.
