if I can be
half of what
you want me to be
then I won’t be me
the one you see

if I can free
that half of me
the one you see
then half of you
will be free
.
long road..

Relationships are a long road, especially when someone wants you to be different than you are. Well written.
thanks dan..
YES! Insight and wise poem
I wish I would have understood that philosophic sage understanding when I was a young woman, then perhaps well maybe the road would have been short sweet and free, instead of the long way around to discovery.
cheers,
joanny
haha cheers joanny..
So easy to lose yourself in a relationship especially when the other wants you to be something other than you. I like this, fiveloaf.

Life is the largest university we will ever attend. Ever decision a lesson to learn. But we were given each other but who do I trust?
I think we have all been there or will be there.
yea sam- i agree with what you say!
Kris,
A very nice journey trough the ups and downs, of life.
Never a straight path…….
Best wishes and Happy New Year,
Eileen
PS: I have been ill and not online much recently.
oh pity you! no wonder i never hear from you for ages.. best wishes to you too eileen and a happy new year to you!
I really liked this as I am finding I am more me than I have ever been..and I can’t imagine going back.
thanks cold dead heart!
That’s true what you wrote–relationships can be a long road but we should never give our truth up for someone else–otherwise relationships can be a very short road! 🙂
thanks bodhi..
mhhhm, i like the perspective of this, the notion that people fall in love with each other and them try to change them to their own avail. and yet, c’est la vie
tres bien 😉 xx
thank you glitter!
Very elegant expression of the importance of staying youself in a relationship and I particularly liked the idea that if your significant other wants to ‘imprison’ half of you, half of the other must stay in jail too as the jailer!
haha thanks stafford for your comment! appreciate it!
There’s some sadness and some trust yet aloof.. Good one.
thank you deeptika..

This is so intriguing.. Wonderfully written.
thank you desiree..
Interesting idea for a poem.
Kind of like inverting the poem/message on itself.
Great job with this
thank you richard..
so true! we too often stay with someone because we fall in love with the idea of changing them into the person we want them to be instead of loving the person they actually are.
well said lola..
love this. i re-read it more than once.
ok robin.. you are welcome to read it more and more times if you like..
This is an interesting poem with clever wording 😀
Why do people strive so hard to change others, when really we ought to change only ourselves, when and IF we want to change…or with some very gentle prompting…haha
you said it right again this time chloe.. 🙂
Really spendid..fiveloaf…half a loaf of you is quite a lot..and measuring up to someone else’s standards…nah…
haha thanks lyn..
thats brilliant… in awe with the witty and beautifull way you have put across your thoughts
thanks raj..
enigmatic and true! we are who we are
thanks irene..
Being in relationship itself is very complicated.. And u have depicted that very nicely in this post 🙂 So anyone wants to get complicated get on to one …
